“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

That’s right, June is here, which means Capital Pride week is right around the corner. Things kickoff with the annual Capital Pride Heroes Gala on June 3 and ends with the closing party on June 14 at Cobalt in Washington, D.C.

With so many events to choose from, Tagg has picked our favorite pride events that we think should be on your radar. Behold, our 2015 event selections. Enjoy!

June 3
Every year Capital Pride honors our local LGBTQ community heroes. This event is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with the Capital Pride Heroes and Engendered Spirit honorees that have dedicated their time to serving the LGBTQ community. Congratulations to Alexandra B. Ernst, Paul Kawata, Justin Markiewicz, Heather Mizeur, Bishop Gene Robinson, Bobbi Elaine Strang, and Kaprice Williams!

How would you like to kickoff pride with a little twilight rooftop party? Join Capital Pride, the Ladies of LURe, and Tagg Magazine for their annual Women’s Kickoff Party at the Rooftop at 2101 L Street NW. This event includes music by DJ Civil, drink specials, and prizes from the Washington Mystics. And, if it rains, the organizers have you “covered”. The backup location is just one block away from the rooftop at Recessions. This event will sell out, so make sure to get your tickets online before June 5.

June 7
The sun is out, which means Ladies Tea season is here. But this isn’t any ordinary tea, it’s pride tea! The free event will include music by local musician Michelle Raymond, fun pride music throughout the day, shooter girls, drink specials, and raw bar specials. Spend your Sunday Funday at Hank’s. All are welcome.

June 9
Join Busboys and Poets and Capital Pride for the annual Women’s Spoken Word. This year the organizers are taking it to the next level with a DJ, live band, and burlesque performances. To accommodate as many beautiful folks as possible, the event will take over the entire venue. Hosted by Shelly Bell, the event is open to women-identified folks of all background who want to share their stories through words.

June 10
For over three years, this event has become a pride tradition. Scandal DC is taking the event over to Penn Social where they anticipate this to be “the biggest jello wrestling ever”. And, if you are looking to jump in the jello arena, you must BYOT (Bring Your Own Towel).

June 11
Sing your heart out in the name of pride! Do you like to sing? Do you want to be in the Capital Pride Parade, representing the oldest lesbian bar in the country? If you answered “hell yes” to those questions, join Phase 1 for Pride Idol, a karaoke contest of epic proportions. Entry is free, and the winner will earn a spot for themselves as well as a plus 1 on their historic Phase 1 float.

June 13
Would you like to be at the largest women’s event of the year? For over five years, FUSE has hosted over 1700 women under one roof in the name of pride. With the event continuing to grow each year, the organizers have moved the party to the historic Howard Theatre for more space, more bars, and a bigger dance floor. Enjoy sounds by DJ Jacq Jill and DJ Rosie, the DystRucXion Dancers, drink specials, surprise performances, and available bottle service. It’s not just a party, it’s a fundraiser for Capital Pride. Get your pre-sale tickets and avoid waiting in line.

June 14
Two words: En Vogue! Join thousands of people at D.C.’s historic Pennsylvania Avenue for the 40th Annual Pride Festival. Come for a day full of entertainment, music, food, drink, education, and celebration. The festival is open to everyone, and there is no fee for entry; however donations are very much encouraged and appreciated. The Capital Pride Festival includes three stages of national and local talent and will host 300 exhibitors including local and community groups, national sponsors, local businesses, food vendors, restaurants, and businesses looking to promote their services to our community.
