Opulence. It’s come back to Washington big time. And you and your friends are going to wallow in the wretched excess of men, muscle, music and moneymaking for some very good causes in April.
It all starts with Lux on Thursday night. D.C. megaclub Cobalt will be devoted to luxury— fast cars, fast cash, and even faster gratification! DJ Steve Sidewalk (NYC) lays down the “lavish” in the lounge area, while on the main floor, Montreal’s Alain Jackinsky will take you higher with his sensational house rhythms. Next night it’s … Decadence! Descend into the underground as Berlin superstar Mickey Friedmann takes you into a deep House at the D.C. Eagle.
On Saturday, you are invited to the grand ball. The crown jewel of your weekend will transform Town Danceboutique into a fantasy of sexy style. After, there’s Avant, an afterhours party that will have you sweating into the morning hours. But save some energy for — get this — a pool party! Yep, in April. In D.C. Then sashay shante to Sashay, the closing party to end all closing parties.
Best of all, all this partying goes to the Cherry Fund. Founded in the late ’90s by a group of local residents united to plan a charity fundraiser, the fund has raised well over $1 million for GLBT advocates and HIV/AIDS prevention and service organizations. The massive main event even became the subject of a tirade that was entered into the Congressional Record. (Shirtless boys on federal property, oh my!)
After having undergone numerous incarnations, Cherry continues as an annual Rite of Spring that honors the memory of its predecessors and the standard bearer for Circuit excellence in the nation’s capital. With a knack for booking the hottest DJs in the business, it also showcases the best clubs and nightlife in the District of Columbia and coincides with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which celebrates the famous blossoming of cherry trees on the National Mall.
The action goes on all weekend, but be sure to catch the sites, including those magnificent cherry blossoms. If you’ve been planning a trip to the nation’s capital, need an excuse to go, or just want to party with the hot men and women who keep the country going, head to Cherry. Be sure you buy your tickets before they’re sold — especially the VIP passes. And yes, you can cherry pick your parties!
