Guitarist Liz Wooley met lead vocalist and front man Mikey Torres via Craigslist. The two bonded over their similar musical tastes and a shared experience of rejecting the religion they’d been raised with during childhood. The duo added Lisa E. (Lacey Liszt) as the band’s additional vocalist, as well as electric violinist among other instruments. Scott McClintock rounded out the band as their bassist.

“This summer marks the two year anniversary of Glitterlust’s first show,” says Wooley.

This upcoming weekend, the band has several shows for the audience’s viewing pleasure. They have teamed up with openly gay rapper Big Dipper, out of Chicago, on a sort of “mini-tour”. Friday, April 26 the band will be at Bear Happy Hour hosted at Town Danceboutique where they will be promoting their events throughout the rest of the weekend.

Saturday, April 27 the band will be backing Big Dipper at the Love Sound Music Festival in Baltimore, Maryland. They will be rounding out their weekend along side Ingleside Collective at Comet Ping Pong on Sunday, April 28.

“Almost everyone involved with the band is gay or lesbian (Scott being our token hetero), and our songs often deal with concepts of sex and sexuality,” says Torres.

Inspired by Robyn, Scissor Sisters, and Goldfrapp, they want their music to translate to people whether they are gay or straight. Torres says that their music is “a mix of nihilistic weekend excess followed by an emotional hangover”. They want their listeners to feel their music.

“Our live show is constantly growing and evolving, and we’re always meeting new people who want to contribute,” says Torres. “We hope that people will come out to see us as much as possible, and when they are dancing maybe we can inspire them to create something of their own. We always tell the audience, ‘We are Glitterlust and, tonight, so are you.’”

During their live shows this weekend, don’t be surprised if you see Liz, Mikey, Lisa, or Scott hand our instruments to people in the audience or if they bring people up on stage. Their goal is to make their music as interactive as possible.

This weekend, whether you’re in Baltimore or D.C., enjoy the venue and experience the music because according to the band, “it’s a party and everyone is invited.”
