Latina writer, filmmaker and actress Astrid Ovalles is set to release her award-winning kinky dark comedic feature-length drama, Road of Bygones.

As the driving force behind Recluse Films, her own independent film company, Ovalles’ mind, heart and artistic direction is only focused on one goal: to create and share evocative, entertaining, and compelling human stories that benefit minorities by bringing them to the forefront of her work.

Road of Bygones tells the story of three women who embark on a road trip to retrieve the ashes of a figure from the past. Hoping to find closure at their destination, the women are confronted with a series of self-destructive, sometimes hilarious, events that threaten to destroy all harmony between them.

Written and directed by Ovalles, the film stars Sarah J. Lucey, Oriana Oppice, and Ovalles herself.

Road of Bygones will be available to rent and purchase on March 15 on Amazon.

1. Describe yourself in a six-word sentence.

Ambitious woman who finds adaptable solutions.

2. What was the last thing you shared on social media?

A photo from a photo shoot with Jammi York, right after I tweeted about my Twitter addiction.

3. What do you think is the main challenge facing LGBTQ people in your community?

Employment and housing discrimination. We cannot thrive if we are struggling to survive.

4. What is your favorite LGBTQ business where you live?

Babeland. It was founded by two women with the intent of pleasing women and LGBTQ folks. I think it’s wonderful that they recognized the void in the sex toy industry (regarding women) and decided to do something about it.

5. What advice do you have for people looking to get into the film (entertainment) industry?

It depends on what branch of entertainment. But overall, I think that resilience is key in this industry. There’s always a solution to every problem. Every obstacle is just a puzzle that needs to be solved. Staying resilient, finding solutions, and getting up after decades of hard work and rejection is what makes the strongest artists out there.
