Named “Best Film Fest” by the Washington City Paper, the DC Short Film Festival returns to Washington, D.C. from September 11 – 21.
On Wednesday September 17 at E Street Cinema, there will be a special screening for LGBT themed films with eight shorts, each averaging about 10 minutes in length. There will be great diversity amongst the films. Genres include comedy, drama, documentary, and musicals. “During the 90-minute screening, we want to make people laugh, cry, and think,” says the film festival’s Executive Director, Paul Marengo.
There is also great geographic diversity with local and international filmmakers. First time directors and seasoned directors alike will be showcased.
“I am so excited to be a part of the DC Shorts Film Festival. This is the first time my work will be featured in the United States,” says French filmmaker, Arnaud Lalanne.
The festival as a whole is an 11-day event with 17 unique 90-minute film showcases ranging in subjects and genres. All films are shorts, each between two to 30 minutes long. Out of the 1400 submissions, the event will screen 135 films from 25 countries, all selected by volunteer reviewers. Film screenings, Q&As, filmmaker workshops, and parties will be held in five different locations throughout Washington, D.C. and Fairfax, VA.
