The concept and conversation of Black “Gay” Pride was formed by a group of friends in Los Angeles in 1988, sparking the movement with the first DC Black Pride celebration in 1991.
The movement serves as a way for Black LGBTQ people to discuss the specific issues that are unique to the Black LGBTQ community.
Today, there are over 25 Black Pride events all over the United States. From workshops to parties, members of the Black LGBTQ community come together every year to celebrate their heritage and identity.
