CasanovaOnTheMic is a Pacific Islander/Japanese female artist from the Island of Guam. Being a singer, rapper, and songwriter, she records with multiple genres such as Hip-Hop, EDM, R&B, Island, and Trap.
Growing up on Guam, she has been influenced by artists like The Green, Ekolu, and Fiji, CasanovaOnTheMic grew an ear for melodies and lyricism that spoke on different issues. As a public figure for the LGBTQ community, she uses music to inspire others and give them positivity.
She performed shows for events such as Team Backpack Brooklyn, LGBT Pride Guam, the 75th Guam Liberation Parade; and is the 2019 Guam Island Music Awards Best Breakout Artist.
CasanovaOnTheMic uses music and poetry as an outlet to connect to others, which enables her to spread her message of purpose, positivity, and love. In her own swagger and comical finesse, she shares inspirational stories of overcoming pain and hurt, but also shares stories of breaking through those heartaches.
How long have you been creating your art?
Since I was in middle school. However, I didn’t take it seriously until high school.
Where are you from? How does that influence your art?
I’m from the Island of Guam. It’s hard finding your way into the music scene here especially when it comes to mainstream music. The scene is mostly reggae, but you do find a crowd that loves mainstream.
What projects are you currently working on? Do you have any upcoming releases?
I’m working on a new project with another artist and it will be released in January 2021.
Why is music important to the queer community?
Music has power in itself. It allows us to be free and that’s what I want people to feel when they listen to my music.
What do you hope to achieve as an artist?
To spread love and positivity. I want people to know that they are so loved and important to this world.
Who are your top three major influences?
Me, Myself, and I. Nobody is going to do anything for you, so I [have to] do it myself.
