Following The New York Times calling Washington, D.C. “the gayest place in America” via Jeremy Peters’ November article, The Advocate has recently named D.C. as the gayest city in America.

The Advocate took many factors into scoring and tabulating their findings. They looked at LGBT elected officials, women’s colleges, gay rodeo associations, lesbian coupled-headed households, and Lady Gaga concert dates, just to name a few.

The metropolitan area also got another nod on the list, citing Arlington, VA as number 10. With the presence of the Arlington Gay & Lesbian Allicance, Freddie’s Beach Bar in Crystal City, and Galaxy Hut in Clarendon, Arlington topped the popular list.

There are still critics out there who find it difficult to quantify this type of information. However, the Advocate is well aware of this difficulty, which is why their criteria are “totally subjective and constantly changing” when it comes to their rankings.
