It’s that time again! This weekend, the Ladies of LURe will come to Cobalt to host the BARE 5th Anniversary Party. Over the past five years, BARE has become an institution in the Washington, D.C. LGBTQ community. Whether you celebrated your birthday, met your current girlfriend, or even had BARE as the first place you wondered into when you wanted to meet women in the community, it’s hard to find a lesbian in D.C. who does not have a special place in their heart for the monthly queer women’s night event.

“I always love the stories. From the ‘I met my wife at your event’ to the ‘your events kept me distracted from a horrible breakup’ or ‘I just moved to D.C. and was amazed how many friends I have met at your event’. It means a lot,” says Karen Diehl, Co-founder of LURe and BARE. “We try to provide a space that welcomes all and gives women a space to connect. While it may seem like just a party, we know that this has been an intricate part of people’s life experience and we are thankful to be a part of that.”

Like always, the party will be held at Cobalt and is taking place this Saturday, January 18. While in the past, these anniversary parties have had special guests and VIP sections; the ladies of LURe have decided to keep this year about you.

“This year we are keeping it simple and making it all about our clientele and colleagues. We wanted to give our guests and employees an opportunity to just enjoy what we’ve been doing for years,” explains Diehl.

After success over the past few years and a lot of demand, the event will also feature a customized ice luge, the DystRuXion Dancers, beer pong, flip cup, gift card giveaways, and a chance to win tickets to Chelsea Handler at DAR Constitution Hall. Guests can also purchase their tickets to the HER HRC event scheduled for February 16 at Town Danceboutique.

“We have kept DJ Rosie who has been with us from day one, DJ Keenan who has been with us for the past few years, and we also added DJ Kash and DJ Deedub who have been a lovely addition to our BARE family at Cobalt,” says Diehl. “We also have an amazing D.C. Drag King performance.”

If you have missed the anniversary parties in the past, whether due to prior commitments or fear of long lines, this five-year milestone event is one you cannot miss. For those who may be a BARE first-timer, this is the perfect party to see what it is all about and become part of a tradition and a family.

“From the beginning, LURe has always strived to bring the community together and to provide safe and fun events for women. We can’t thank our clientele, our current and previous staff, our venues, DJ’s, dancers, bartenders, graphic artists, and security enough for being such an amazing group. To us, all of you are our family. We love and adore all of you and we look forward to spending many more nights together.”

BARE will be held Saturday, January 18 from 10 p.m. – 3 a.m. at Cobalt, 1639 R Street NW, Washington, D.C. BARE is a 21+ event. There will be a $10 cover all night. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/events/218801244959170/.
