In a few words, how would you describe yourself?
Passionate, loyal, and often spontaneous.
Your favorite hangout spots.
For the past year, my favorite hangout spot has been Antietam Brewery in Hagerstown, MD. Nothing can beat great people, food, and craft beers. They also sell Lion & Dove wine, so it’s a win-win.
However, my absolute favorite spot—that is unfortunately temporarily closed due to the pandemic—is Sipside Lounge in Oakland, MD. The owners and staff are so genuine. Every time you visit, it’s like drinking with family.
Favorite guilty pleasure.
Beating my friend Natal at miniature golf every time we travel or he visits. Okay, I don’t beat him every time, but he’s not here to argue.
Favorite quote.
“You can never get lost if you just change where you were going.”
Who is your biggest influence? And why?
Other than my mom, Angela who has always been the rock in my life, I would say my biggest influences are my two “derby moms” who I met when I founded a roller derby league in college. Struggling in the closet, I refreshingly came out shortly after I observed Rebekah and Garber’s marriage. Here I was teaching two rugby players to roller skate and put their rugged talents to use on the track, and they unknowingly taught me that it’s normal and okay to be gay.
Favorite event.
I will say that my favorite memory during a recent event was hanging out with Beth Ditto during her Fire tour with my friend Kat at U Street Music Hall. It was a sold out show and somehow no one noticed Beth had crept out to enjoy the opener. So, naturally we noticed, bought a few drinks and slyly went over to hang out with her before she played her set, which as always was fire.
Do you have any regrets in life?
I have no regrets, but my Mom would say that a certain tattoo of mine should be one.
Favorite lesbian celebrity.
I’m a rule breaker, so [it’s] a two-way tie between Maja Ivarsson of The Sounds and actress Zoie Palmer from the show Lost Girl.
Any fun facts or anything else you want our readers to know?
Many people are surprised to learn that my sister is in fact my identical twin. Sabrina is my best friend who has entertained all of my hobbies and ideas about wine, the JFK 50 Mile (she’s a 2x finisher), as well as my unrelated life adventures – including the time she went dancing with me at a Robyn concert while very pregnant. I have recently become a proud auntie and hope to be a great role model to both of them, so they [know] that they can grow up to be whatever they want.
