Why: Sisters in Cinema is celebrating the official grand opening of its new Media Arts Center. The Center joins a host of organizations on the South Side of Chicago focused on cultural development and neighborhood transformation through projects that promote and honor Black leadership, history and creativity. This project was made possible, in part, by a Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grant from the City of Chicago.

Envisioning a world where all Black girls, women and gender nonconforming media makers and storytellers have equitable opportunities to create and thrive, Sisters in Cinema conducts work both nationally and hyper-locally in Chicago. It is recognized for its development programs that help grow the field of opportunity for Black women and gender non-conforming media makers, including the Sisters in Cinema Documentary Fellowship, which provides financial and creative career-long support to emerging documentary filmmakers.
