On Wednesday, May 11, SMYAL (Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders), the LGBTQ youth organization in the Washington, D.C. area, will host a new event called Lawyers for SMYAL featuring former US Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr.
“With a wave of anti-LGBT legislation sweeping the country, including bills to police transgender students in school bathrooms, LGBTQ youth need our support now more than ever,” says Sultan Shakir, SMYAL Executive Director. “We are thrilled to have former Attorney General Holder, one of our community’s most loyal allies, join us at our inaugural Lawyers for SMYAL event.”
The event features a host committee of supporters and SMYAL Board members who represent many different facets of the legal profession.
“I am proud to support SMYAL and excited to share with fellow members of my profession the important work that SMYAL does every day empowering LGBTQ throughout this region,” says Edward Palmieri, SMYAL Board Member.
Lawyers for SMYAL will be held on May 11 at 6 p.m. at the Global Headquarters of Presenting Sponsor Covington & Burling at One City Center, 850 10th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit http://tiny.cc/Lawyers4SMYAL.
