In recognition of Women’s History Month, AARP DC, the Human Rights Campaign, SAGE DC, and Whitman-Walker Health are co-sponsoring an event pertaining to family caregiving in the LGBT community. With the support from AARP’s Women’s and LGBT (PRISM) Employee Resource Group, Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams is opening their doors to this Lounge and Learn series.
Oftentimes, the older adult and the family caregiver are left feeling isolated and don’t know how to access help or services. This event will help to provide information on resources, support groups, transportation, and financial assistance for women who are caregivers or taking care of themselves.
“Family caregiving is an important issue that crosses the boundaries of age, income, race, ethnicity, and LGBT identity,” says Winifred Quinn, Director, Advocacy & Consumer Affairs at AARP. “Many older adults struggle to achieve their basic daily activities and may or may not have an unpaid ‘family caregiver’ help them with chores, transportation, shopping, and other tasks.”
Attendees are encouraged to sit back and share their thoughts and ideas in a relaxed living room setting.
The Lounge and Learn event takes place Tuesday, March 31 at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, 1526 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C. at 6:30 p.m. For more information and to RSVP, visit https://aarp.cvent.com/LoungeandLearn2/.
