Everyone has “that one friend.” The one who always knows which adorable new locally owned restaurant has an amazing brunch, which pop-up farmerʼs market you should explore next, and which super obscure but apparently amazing band is playing at a local venue youʼve never heard of. Deb Griffin is that friend in Rehoboth Beach. She has a column titled, “Buzz Worthy” in Letters where she highlights local business openings and other local events going on in Rehoboth. She started a newsletter (with over 5,000 subscribers) covering local events and independent business happenings. Griffin is a real estate agent—she knows a lot of people—and she wanted to create an enjoyable way to stay in touch with the people she met. This led to the start of Local Buzz Happy Hour.
What makes this happy hour different are the stickers attendees will wear instead of name tags. Youʼll write ISO (in search of) or “I am” followed by your professional title or any services you offer if youʼre looking for clients. “Itʼs to the point and itʼs a talking point”, says Griffin. It facilitates your connections in a way that just makes sense.
The first one is this Friday, March 7 at Hobos—vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diet friendly—and “a little off the beaten path,” says Griffin, “you wonʼt find us going to Ruby Tuesday or somewhere like that.”
“Itʼs a way for my readership, which runs the gamut, to go new places”, says Griffin, “and itʼs a great opportunity to meet new people.”
