Dr. Morgan Faye is a small animal veterinarian from California and also the founder of Lezathlon. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA in 2006 where she studied History, with an emphasis in Philosophy and Religion. She then pursued a film degree and after working for five years in film and television production, she decided to change course and accomplish her dream of becoming a veterinarian.
She received her veterinary medical degree from the The University of Edinburgh, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2019 where she was awarded a University-wide Impact Award for her research and work in veterinary ethics and animal welfare education.
She hopes to further specialize in Internal Medicine, with a focus in Feline Medicine. In her free time, she hangs out with her cat, Princess Winnie, and helps her team make the Lezathlon events an unforgettable experience for the members of the LGBTQ community.
1. Describe yourself in a short sentence.
Goofy gay gregarious veterinarian, loud cackle.
2. What was the last thing you shared on social media?
It was actually a throwback post about a lamb I snuck into my apartment during vet school. I had done a lambing placement (where you go for two weeks to deliver hundreds of lambs), and I fell in love with this little cutie I named Derpy. I was so heartbroken I had to leave her there so I asked the farmer if I could come back and take her, which he was kind enough to do. I snuck her into my apartment which ended up being one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever done. She was not quiet. Eventually I drove 16 hours round trip to bring her to her forever home at The Farm Animal Sanctuary where she lives today!
3. What do you think is the main challenge facing LGBTQ people in your community?
I think it always comes back to belonging and feeling like you have people in your life who you connect to and who understand you. There are a lot of horrific things going on in the world—especially right here in the United States—and I think as long as we try to listen to each other and always choose kindness, we will hopefully see some progress with our challenges. I like that Lezathlon brings people together by playing ridiculous games. It’s a great way to bond and not take ourselves too seriously.
4. What is your favorite LGBTQ business where you live?
Well, I’ve just moved to Denver so I don’t know if I can pick a favorite business here yet. However, I LOVE Camp Brave Trails from Los Angeles.
5. What advice do you have for people looking to get in the events industry?
I would tell people that it is a ton of work and does not usually end up being very lucrative. You have to really want to do it to connect with your community and bring people something special. I love sports and games (and lesbians) and so that is the heart of Lezathlon. But if you love art, bring art to the people. If you love music, do a cool music event. Bring people something unique that you are passionate about.
