Women You Should Meet (W.Y.S.M): Natalie Thompson

Natalie Thompson

City, State: Kensington, MD

Age: 32

Profession: Homeless Advocate, Artist, and Volunteer Executive Producer for Capital Pride

In a few words, how would you describe yourself?

Chill, fun loving, creative, and passionate.

Your favorite hangout spots.
Anywhere there’s good company. It’s the people that matter, not the location. Back in the day, you could always find me at APEX. I miss that place.

Favorite guilty pleasure.
Watching TV, especially “bad” British television.

Favorite quote.
“You don’t need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are.” – John Lennon.

Who is your biggest influence? And why?

Influence is everywhere. I look to my family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and strangers to guide me on my journey. Everyone has a story to tell and a lesson to teach.

Favorite event.
Nothing beats a live concert or the theater.

Favorite lesbian celebrity.
I don’t have a favorite. I admire people who are living their truth for the world to see. Being open with the world is brave- I respect that. I’m waiting for the day when it’s no longer brave to be yourself. I really want to see more queer women of color share their stories.

Any fun facts or anything else you want our readers to know?
I absolutely love to sing. If you see me driving around, I will definitely be singing along to the radio. Music is life. Singing is freedom.
