Founders of MimSol Entertainment and Purely Ladies First LIVE, Marisol Morrissey-Brown and DJ Mim
In a city where there is an obvious lack of spaces celebrating the artistry of women performers, MimSol Entertainment and DJ Mim have the only all women line-up in the city. The Purely Ladies First LIVE! is a monthly variety show featuring comedians, DJs, fashion designers, rappers, poets, singers, spoken word performers and visual artists. This networking and entertainment hybrid is also the perfect place for entrepreneurs and small business owners to network with like minds.
Last month’s line-up featured Slam Poet, Devin Messina, DJ Adotnet, DLO The Comedian, the Dutchess of Rap, and Illy Cartier. According to the organizer, the show flowed with perfection as the mic was passed to each performer. Not only is the line-up an all star cast of prodigious entertainers, but woven into the crowd are hometown celesbians from District Heat and the producers of Honey Groove DC.
This monthly event wouldn’t be keeping in true D.C. queer community form if there was not a purpose associated with this party. Proceeds from each event are donated to a designated non-profit organization or charity that supports women’s causes and issues. Donations have been given to My Sister’s Place, Martha’s Table, Safe Shores, Flint DC, Autism Speaks, Susan G. Komen and DC Safe.
Purely Ladies First LIVE! was created for the queer women’s community to enjoy a special night out, meet some beautiful and like-minded souls, sip on drink specials and be entertained every 4th Wednesday of the month at Pure Lounge from 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. This month’s show features Ayana Songstress, Crystal Cornish, DJ Honey, Fairin Moon, Mahogany, Shelly Bell, Smoochie Blanco, and RADBOD.
