Clouds In My Coffee Theatre Company is producing Sensuality II, the exciting sequel to last year’s sold out hit Sensuality. Both written and directed by Sonya Hemphill, this show promises to be quite entertaining. If you missed the show last year, don’t worry, the cast will quickly catch you up. Not only will attendees enjoy a jam-packed theatrical event in the historic Howard Theatre, but producers will also be contributing to the future development of Mary’s House, an LGBTQ friendly retirement home set to open in the near future in Washington, D.C.

The story centers around two women in love, who have now aged and are traveling to Mary’s House, an LGBTQ senior living center, where they hope to live. Along the way, they experience some exciting stops, such as Shi-Queeta Lee’s Drag Emporium and Chocolate City Burlesque Palace.

“The different stops they make along the way are significant,” explains writer and director Sonya Hemphill. “Having local acts in the show helps to build community and shows a united front for a great cause.” Both Shi-Queeta Lee’s troupe and Gigi Holiday of Chocolate City Burlesque will be featured in original acts.

“It’s important that we come together as a community to support Mary’s House DC,” says Hemphill, who learned about the LGBT retirement home a little over a year ago. The play seeks to unravel the many challenges that LGBTQ couples face when choosing a retirement home.

“It’s easy to give someone a pamphlet and tell them about Mary’s House DC,” says Hemphill. “However, through the arts, you get to truly see the people and hear their stories which can tug at your heart.”

Among the cast is local comedienne Chelsea Shorte, who will be reprising as Alex, the playful yet stubborn older partner in the couple. “Even those persons who supported us by seeing Sensuality last summer are in for something new and fun,” explains Shorte. “Our audience will learn a little about Mary’s House DC and feel the joy of supporting such an important and necessary addition to our community. And Sensuality II has several surprises that I can not yet reveal that no one will want to miss!”

Sensuality II will take the stage on Saturday, May 30 at the Howard Theatre at 7 p.m. Immediately following the show there will be a dance party for guests and cast members. Tagg Magazine readers are invited to use the special promo code “TAGG” to receive a special  $15 discount on VIP tickets, which includes a 6 p.m. show hosted by Chocolate City Burlesque.  Tickets and more information about this exciting community event can be found here.
