Women You Should Meet (W.Y.S.M.): Sheri Trice

Sheri Traci, Bartender at ALOHO DC

Name: Sheri Trice

City, State: Washington, D.C.

Age: 34

Profession: Owner, Bella Bridesmaids DC and Side-hustling bartender at A League of Her Own

Website: Bellabridesmaids.com

In a few words, how would you describe yourself?
Loyal, witty, driven, attention deficient, and curator of dope playlists.

Your favorite hangout spots.
When turning up, A League of Her Own. When working from “home,” Big Bear Café. And, when brunching, Bar Pilar.

Favorite guilty pleasure.
Watching Disney and/or Pixar movies.

Who is your biggest influence? And why?
Black women, historically. My mother, my grandmother, and the like. Black women taught me how to love, how to achieve, how to hustle, how to overcome, how to fail and not let it break me, and how to find myself beautiful in a world that persistently says that we are not. Black women are magical.

Favorite event.
My birthday. I love any excuse to gather those I love for a good time.

Do you have any regrets in life?
How I engaged with others, both romantically and otherwise, prior to self-actualizing as a person comfortable with being “out”.

Favorite lesbian celebrity.
Lena Waithe. The “Thanksgiving” episode of Masters of None was a beautiful dissent from the traditional narrative of homophobia in the Black community. She is also a hustler and has impeccable style. She is giving a voice to many of stories previously untold.

Fun facts.
I listen to “Faded” by Soul Decision at least once a week and I never fail to go all the way off when I hear it.
