May is Mental Health Awareness Month. On this episode of the Gag we speak with Shane’a Thomas, a therapist and licensed clinical social worker.
Shane’a currently does intensive office- and home-based therapy work specializing in the area of life transitions, bereavement, depression, women’s issues, and various gender/sexual/alternative lifestyle identities. She is proudly living her dream as college professor, teaching for the University of Southern California’s School of Social Work’s Virtual Academic Center (VAC), shaping people not only as competent social workers but as self-aware humans who are committed to the community.
In addition to her commitment in social work, Shane’a also runs a Lunchtime Support Group for Young Queer Women Surviving Trauma. This group is designed specifically for self-identified queer women and those that navigate the world as such, ages 18-24, who have experienced or witnessed a crime.
Tune in as Shane’a talks about mental health, especially mental health in the LGBTQ community.
