This weekend the DC United soccer team hosts their United Night Out sports event to honor LGBTQ soccer fans.
The purpose of United Night Out is “to celebrate and honor the LGBTQ community for their hard work, determination, and dedication to make the LGBTQ community a better place” according to DC United Marketing Director Dale Robins-Bailey.
The game takes place Saturday, September 27 where DC United will take on the Philadelphia Union. The pre-game ceremonies kick off at noon with a tailgate party. Every year the Federal Triangles Soccer Club hosts the tailgate party. The Federal Triangles will provide grills and delicious barbeque food, and Team DC will supply the beer with proper identification. After the tailgate festivities, game attendees will make their way to their seats to hear the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington sing the National Anthem.
The game kicks off at 3 p.m. The DC United, Federal Triangles, and Team DC expect many LGBTQ people to show their support not only for the soccer team, but for the community too.
