The first annual NOVA Pride and the news of marriage equality have made it an exciting year to be in Virginia. Now, it’s time to treat yourself and start planning your New Year’s Eve celebration. A unique way to ring in 2015 is at Wicked Jezabel’s Shanghai Shindig.

Aptly nicknamed Washington, D.C.’s “Lesbian Bar on Wheels,” Wicked Jezabel comprises an award-winning group of female performers: Davi Anson-Dross, Pauline Anson-Dross, Heather Haze, Sandy Dumas, Patty Daugherty, and Ann Cioffi. And, they recently celebrated 10 years of rocking the Metro queer community. Voted “Best of Gay DC” in 2013 and runner-up this year, the band also received Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) awards in 2007 and 2008. For New Year’s Eve, Wicked Jezabel will be teaming up with DJ Jamie Fox to bring us a special year-end party with an Asian twist.

Ready to host their first New Year’s gig since 2006, the band checked out event space in Fairfax, VA, at the Comfort Inn. However, it soon became obvious that their celebration could be larger and much more interesting if they held it in the hotel’s Asian Delight restaurant.

“We needed more space, and [the restaurant] definitely has the space. Plus, it has a unique atmosphere,” remarks vocalist and lead guitarist Pauline Anson-Dross. While contemplating the details, Anson-Dross decided, “We could work with this. This could be fun. So, we’re calling it The Shanghai Shindig. The Wicked Shanghai Shindig.”

The Chinese-American fusion party will include a two-hour open bar, all-you-can-eat American and Chinese buffet, swag bags, a champagne toast, party favors, and many surprises. A special Kung Fu demonstration by the band’s own Heather Haze is also part of the evening’s entertainment.

And, the band is excited to be collaborating with DJ Jamie Fox on this shindig. “It’s important to us not only to support the fans and the community, in general, with all of the fundraisers we like to do, but it’s also very important to support other entertainers in the same business that we’re in,” explains Anson-Dross. “Jamie is easy to work with. She’s a lot of fun and a good DJ. It’s just another way of spreading the love.”

This unique New Year’s Eve celebration will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Comfort Inn University Center in Fairfax, VA. Discounted rooms are available with the code “wickedjezabel” (that’s “jezabel” with an “a”), and the hotel is pet-friendly. You can purchase tickets only at www.wickedjezabel.com. And, for every five tickets you buy, the sixth ticket is free! In addition, 10 percent of the evening’s profits will be donated to a local animal rescue organization. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the New Year with a group of friends, while supporting a worthy cause.

Happy New Year!
