Sarah Prager of Quist

Name: Sarah Prager
City, State: Berwyn Heights, MD
Age: 28
Profession: Director of Quist

In a few words, how would you describe yourself?
Driven, an introvert, a wife, and leader.

Your favorite hangout spots.
I feel bad saying Starbucks, but Starbucks. I like knowing I’m going to get soymilk, Wi-Fi, and an outlet no matter which one I walk into.

Favorite guilty pleasure.
Queer history books. I love buying them but now I’m backed up so I have a tower of unread books to go through for Quist research.

Favorite quote.
“Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards.” Willem Arondeus, a Dutch gay man who was a resistance fighter against the Nazis, lived his life by these words. He did his heroic activism while being out. That’s the kind of story that makes me do this work.

Who is your biggest influence? And why?
Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon. They founded the first lesbian rights organization and first lesbian publication in the United States. They were also partners for over 50 years. If I could accomplish 1% of what they did while still having a happy marriage like they did, I’d be pretty damn proud.

Favorite event.
I’m a married lesbian with three cats – what events? My favorite is to stay home, but I do love the opportunities to travel to queer studies conferences, LGBTQ youth events, and other places I get talk queer history with anyone. And any event by Lesbians Who Tech!

Do you have any regrets in life?
There are situations where I wish I’d made a different decision, but it’s all worked out fine so far.

Favorite lesbian celebrity.
It’s got to be Ellen.

Any fun facts or anything else you want our readers to know?
I was once a bridesmaid for a wedding in front of a beluga whale tank at an aquarium. Also, Quist is a free mobile app for Apple, Android, and Windows devices that teaches you actual fun facts about LGBTQ history.
