On Saturday, April 26, 2014, Tagg Magazine will host their annual Taggfest and Masquerade Gala at the Almas Shriner’s Temple located at 1315 K Street NW, Washington, D.C. Taggfest will be held from 10 am to 3 pm and the Masquerade Gala will be from 7 pm to 11 pm. This year’s beneficiary is the Wanda Alston Foundation.
Time and again we hear people in the queer community wishing there was another way to connect outside of the normal bar scene. Though many smaller events and meet ups have started popping up around the Washington, D.C. area, this year’s Taggfest and Masquerade Gala will be an event unlike any other.
Created by Tagg Magazine (D.C. metropolitan area’s only lesbian, bisexual, and transgender focused magazine) and an all-volunteer committee, the event is meant to “bring our diverse group of readers together for one day of connecting, collaborating, and educating…with a splash of fun!”
The day will be broken up into two events. Participants will get to know each other and expand their minds at Taggfest, an event fashioned for everyone under the Tagg rainbow. Broken into socials and workshops, Taggfest will include sex & relationship workshops, self-defense classes, a craft beer tasting, family planning, a forum on the femme vs. boi experience, and other LGBTQ topics. Taggfest tickets will include lunch and access to all breakout sessions. With non-stop sessions, mixers, and DIY mask making, every participant is sure to learn something new while meeting new friends and supporters in the LGBTQ community.
In the evening, participants will be able to let their hair down and party the night away at the Masquerade Gala. For those familiar with the Capital Queer Prom, the annual event has since grown up, evolved, and added a mysterious, masked twist. The Gala is excited and honored to welcome Danella Sealock from NBC4 as this year’s special guest and host. Each participant will receive drink tickets for VeeV cocktails and DC Brau Beer. The event will also include a silent auction, cash bar, and heavy hors’dourves. Making sure you dance the night away, DJ Mim and DJ Rosie will be spinning old and new tracks guaranteed to keep you on your feet.
This year’s beneficiary is the Wanda Alston Foundation. Their mission is to provide shelter and support for LGBTQ homeless youth in the Washington, D.C. area. The foundation will be receiving a large donation from the Taggfest and Masquerade Gala proceeds.
Though the event will wind down at 11 pm, the night will be far from over as the Official After Party kicks off at Phase 1 located at 525 8th Street SE, Washington, D.C. Entry is free for all Taggfest and Masquerade Gala participants.
