You do not have to arrange a party to celebrate your engagement, but why miss out on the fun? It’s a good opportunity to eat, drink and get everyone to meet up before the wedding.

In years gone by, engagement parties were pretty formal events that were normally hosted by the bride’s family. However, a lot has changed since then. Let’s face it, women did not even marry other women back then. So, you and your partner can do anything you want to celebrate your engagement. If your families want to host the event then why not go with it? On the other hand, there are so many great themes that you can go for if you decide to host the party yourselves. Here are five fun ideas to get you started and inspire you.

A night at the casino

If you like the idea of a casino themed celebration, you can always arrange for friends and family to visit a casino with you. However, it can be even more fun to create a casino at home.

Sites like buycasinostuff.com specialize in providing the items that you need such as decorations, chips and tables. Be creative when you are arranging the night. For instance, you may want to send playing card invites and use a red and black theme for the decor.

Around the world in one evening

As much as you may love to, it’s not practical to actually take everyone around the world to celebrate your engagement. This does not mean that you should give up on the idea altogether.

You can bring the world to your party. You can decorate the venue with flags and images of different countries. You can also have a menu of international foods as well as creating cocktails from different countries.

Picnics and games

You would be surprised at how much fun you can have by adopting a picnic theme for your celebration. You can host the event in your yard, or on a friend’s property, if there is enough space.

If not, there is nothing wrong with heading to a park with blankets and baskets of delicious picnic food. You can sip some fizz, for a touch of luxury. Then you can relive your youth by playing games like tag and hide and go seek. This works even better if you have kids to keep entertained.

Bring on the bling

If fun in the park is not your thing, you may prefer the idea of bringing some sparkle to the occasion. You can encourage your guests to dress formally with plenty of bling on view.

You may want to hire out a high-end restaurant for this type of event. If you prefer to decorate at home, you may want to include a red carpet as a special welcome for guests. It’s also important to remember to have plenty of champagne on ice.

Recreate your first date

If you and your partner both have a strong romantic streak, this may be the ideal way to celebrate your engagement. For instance, if you went to see a movie for your first date, why not try to hire out the theater.

Obviously, the event will not mirror your date exactly because you did not have a bunch of people with you then. However, it is a fun way of recognizing just how far you have come as a couple.

All of these are memorable themes for an engagement party. Whether you decide to choose one, or go with your own ideas, the most important thing is to have fun and celebrate with your family and friends.
