National LGBT Bar Association Recognizes Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40

The National LGBT Bar Association announced their “Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 Class of 2013.” Within this prestigious group are three women from the D.C. Metropolitan area who have distinguished themselves in their field and demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBT equality.

Madeleine Findley

Madeleine V. Findley is a partner with Wiltshire & Grannis LLP in Washington, D.C., and practices primarily in the area of privacy and telecommunications law. She graduated from Yale University, the University of Michigan Ford School of Public Policy, and the University of Michigan Law School. Currently, Findley counsels clients on a wide range of Internet and information law matters involving privacy and data protection, electronic surveillance, e-discovery, information security, cloud computing, social media, location services, e-commerce, and national security. She also works with the Appellate Litigation Group on civil and criminal appeals in the U.S. Supreme Court and various courts of appeals.

Emily Hecht-McGowan is the Director of Public Policy for the Family Equality Council in Takoma Park, MD. She holds a B.A. in History from American University and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law. Previously, Hecht-McGowan served as the Legal Director for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN), where she assisted service members impacted by Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and related forms of discrimination. In addition to working in Takoma Park, Hecht-McGowan also lives there with her wife Sharon, their daughter Sadie, and their “trusty” beagle Ellie.

Holly Lincoln is a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. She currently is employed in the Housing and Civil Enforcement section of the Civil Rights Division. Lincoln received a B.A. in English from Smith College and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law. Before working for the U.S. Department of Justice, she served as a law clerk for the Honorable Solomon Oliver, Jr., in the Northern District of Ohio.

“We are thrilled to honor the next generation of LGBT legal professionals,” said D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the National LGBT Bar Association. “Each of these individuals has made incredible contributions to the victories the LGBT community has achieved in the past year.”

The awards ceremony takes place August 22–24, 2013, at the 25th Anniversary Lavender Law Conference & Career Fair, in San Francisco, CA.
