It’s Mental Health Awareness Month and The Child Mind Institute is featuring a celebrity video per day as part of its #MyYoungerSelf campaign to end the stigma attached to mental health and learning disorders. Each day, the site will share celebrities speaking to their younger selves via homemade, inspiring messages recorded on their smartphones. Recently Chamique Holdsclaw released a video discussing her struggles with depression.
Holdsclaw, a former WNBA player for the San Antonio Silver Stars, shares her advice to her younger self: “I think it goes back to something that my grandmother used to tell me as a young kid, a closed mouth does not get feed. And the thing is, that people cannot read minds. And when I was going through some of my tough times, in regards to my mental health, I would internalize everything.”
Other celebrities participating in this campaign are Kristen Bell, Clark Gregg, Mikaela Shiffrin, Gabrielle Union, Brittany Snow, Sarah Silverman, and James Van Der Beek.
