Centering on Arts

The DC Center’s Center Arts Program hosts reception

DC Center Beaujolais Nouveau
The DC Center will host a Center Arts Reception on Tuesday, February 11 at MOVA Lounge to raise awareness and needed funds for The DC Center’s Center Arts Program. The evening will be emceed by poet Regie Cabico.

The arts initiative is comprised of three programs: Capturing Fire, an international spoken word and poetry festival; DC Theatre Queer Festival, a program dedicated to celebrating the underrepresented voices of LGBT artists; and OutWrite, an annual book festival celebrating LGBT literature.

“The Center Arts Reception will give the community the opportunity to learn about the Center’s Three Arts Programs and give them a little taste of the Center’s Arts Programs,” says Paul Marengo, Chair of Monthly Program Happy Hours. “Art has always been important because it allows us to express ourselves as well as entertain, inform, and educate.”

Following comments by Moshe Adams, D.C. Commission for the Arts and Humanities’ Director of Grants and Center Art Program Chairs will be readings by Regie Cabico, Eryca Kasse, Tolanda Henderson, Sarah D. Lawson, Dan Vera, José Gutierrez, and DicCion Queer.

“The Center Arts Reception will allow our community to gain a glimpse into the Center’s Art Programs as well as provide an opportunity for involvement,” says Marengo.

A $10 suggested donation and a small silent auction will go to support The DC Center’s art programs for 2014: Capturing Fire, OutWrite, and the DC Queer Theatre Festival.
