First Openly Gay 'American Idol' Singer Makes Top 10

MK Nobilette wows judges with “All of Me” by John Legend

On Wednesday’s “American Idol,” the first live episode of the season, MK Nobilette gave an emotional performance of John Legend’s “All of Me”. Nobilette has become the first openly gay contestant to make it to the girls top 10 on the national singing competition show.

“I’m very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who are definitely going to hate,” the 20-year old singer said candidly.

However, after her live performance, the audience and judges responded with nothing but support and admiration for the singer.

“It was the perfect song choice, it really was. There’s a transparency in your vulnerability and your humanness,” Keith Urban commented, adding,“That was a really beautiful performance.”

And the crowd and other judges enthusiastically agreed.

“It’s so easy to pick the big singers, but then somebody comes and you realize that’s not what it’s about,” Jennifer Lopez told the contestant.
