Planning that first vacation as a couple is an exciting and somewhat daunting prospect. The idea of being able to spend a week or two in paradise together is extremely appealing, however there’s also a lot that you need to consider when organizing your trip.
While planning a break with your partner can be a fun and exciting activity, it can also come with a little stress. The fact is that there’s a lot to consider after all, traveling with someone who you haven’t traveled with before is always somewhat strange. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t plan the perfect getaway, it’s just a case of taking the time to plan each aspect carefully to ensure that you’re both happy with what your trip will consist of.
In need of a little inspiration to help make the planning process easier and less stressful?
Below are a few ideas that should help to ensure your trip is as just as fun, enjoyable and exciting as you’ve imagined it will be.
Take practicalities seriously
Be practical when it comes to planning your trip. While it might be tempting to try and plan the most incredible trip, it’s not practical to spend money that you cannot afford to spend. Sit down together and discuss how much you would each like – and can afford – to spend on the vacation. It’s also worth thinking about how much time you can both get off work. You might love the idea of a month-long excursion, but ask yourself: is it really practical? Once you’ve worked out the size of your combined budget and how long the two of you can get off of work, the next step is to start thinking about locations.
Pick a location together
It’s a good idea to both select the destination together, so that you are both happy with your choice. Sit down and chat through your options – perhaps prior to this you could both make a list of places that you want to visit and then compare and see if any match. This could make picking a location a little easier and less stressful.
Make a list of activities you will both enjoy
Once you have chosen a destination, the next step is to determine the kind of trip you would like to have. The best way to do that is to make a list of the activities that you will both enjoy, and determine which of them you should plan to do. Say, for instance, your destination is Africa, then you might list activities such as doing a mountain hike, camping overnight in a national park, or going on a safari, such as one of Tanzania Odyssey Safaris. You may have different ideas about what your trip should consist of, but that’s okay as you can always compromise and take it in turns choosing the activities that you will do.
Listen to each other
One of the most important things you can do when planning a trip as a couple is to listen to each other. Ask your partner their thoughts on each aspect of the trip, from where you go to what you see and do. Be open to new experiences and doing things that without your partner you would never normally do.
