It’s time to end your November on a good note: Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls will perform alongside country artist Chely Wright at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Joined by her full country band, Ray will perform tracks from her solo album, Goodnight Tender, and other material.

Goodnight Tender’s sound departs from Ray’s work as an Indigo Girl and a solo artist. Country and gospel sounds abound as Ray, a Georgia native, explores her southern musical roots through instruments including the fiddle, banjo, dobro, mandolin, and pedal steel guitar. Ray wrote the songs on the album over more than a decade.

Ray will also be trying out some new songs. “I’m working toward material for a new solo record,” she says.

Ray’s Birchmere performance is the second of six shows on this tour. “I just wanted to get out there and play some music,” she says. “It’s just some quick shows to kick up my heels a bit.”
