Are you doing anything for Lesbian Visibility Week?
Founded by Linda Riley of DIVA Charitable Trust, this year’s LVW runs from April 20-April 26. The movement is designed to “ensure lesbians’ lives, culture, and communities are visible across public, social, and cultural spaces.” LVW is celebrated internationally, and brings our community together through events—online and in cities across the country.
The Curve Foundation is the official host of the U.S. arm of LVW, and one of their biggest events is the release of The Curve Power List. Every year, this impressive list celebrates LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary leaders who are actively inciting change across North America. These are folks shaping culture, policy, and social change and run the gamut from well-known celebrities (Cynthia Erivo made the cut in 2025) to scientists championing better mental health care (as was the case with Neuroscience researcher Christa Rose in 2024) and everything in between. The 2026 Curve Power List winners will be announced this week.
The 2026 theme for LVW is a focus on health and wellness. As toxic politicians, conservative communities, and manosphere influencers spout their hate and push for a culling of LGBTQ+ rights, it’s important to come together. We must look after ourselves in order to survive and fight back, and LVW gives us a chance to heal and support one another. The visibility also makes us safer, as people outside of the community get to know sapphic folks and our realities.
The celebrations and events of LVW are not exclusively for lesbians, and all sapphics are invited to participate. The LVW website states, “LVW is inclusive: our umbrella covers many identities, including lesbians, queer women, bi women, trans women, nonbinary folks, and those connected to lesbian culture. Visibility strengthens all of us. You don’t have to identify as a lesbian to uplift those who do.”
I couldn’t agree more!
