Mujeres en el Movimiento Networking Happy Hour

Latino GLBT History Project
The Latino GLBT History Project (LHP) will host the 3rd annual “Mujeres en el Movimiento” celebration on March 28th from 6:30-8:30 p.m at MOVA. It is a unique social event for Latina lesbians in Washington, D.C., celebrating National Women’s History Month.

The 2014 National Women’s History Month theme is “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment.” In keeping with this theme, the organization will be honoring two courageous Latinas in the LGBT community. These women have demonstrated their commitment through their outstanding work in the areas of women’s empowerment, racial justice, and activism at the intersections of the Latino and LGBT communities. The Rising Star Award will be presented to an up-and-coming Latina leader who has shown great dedication, commitment, and promise as a young activist. The Legacy Award will be presented to a Latina with a long history of service in these communities.

Past honorees include Laura Esquivel and Letitia Gomez. Both women have made significant contributions to the Latino community and the LGBT community on both a local and national level.

“Mujeres en el Movimiento” is a place for lesbian Latinas to come together to build a strong and supportive community with other like-minded women. It’s a great opportunity for networking and sharing inspiring stories and achievements. The organizers encourage proud Latinas and members of Washington’s active LGBT community to join them for this event.

“We are thrilled to support the Latino GLBT History Project,” says Babak Movahedi, principal of MOVA. “MOVA has always and will continue to support the inclusion of women throughout the GLBT community. In-fact, both of our properties have dedicated weekly events just for the ladies.”

A $5 donation is suggested to help support Latino GLBT History Project’s programs and events that acknowledge the rich Latina/o LGBT culture in the D.C. metro area.
