Lesbians are constantly consulting the calendar before heading out for a night with the girls. Is it ladies’ night tonight? Is today the second or third Saturday of the month? The exertion is enough to make one pitch those stilettos, grab slippers and see what’s on Netflix. Just when it seems the gayborhood has forgotten about women, Vanna and Julia Belton come along with the perfect cure. The couple has brought us Flavor, a much needed oasis for women in the dessert of male dominated gay bars and clubs. The restaurant/lounge has been gaining popularity since it’s opening on October 12.
Julia graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, then went on to work at three Michelin star restaurant Eleven Madison Park in New York City. She uses her training in fine dining to bring ethnic influences to her cooking while managing to keep her menu high quality yet simple and recognizable. Julia describes her menu as going “back to the basics, just doing it the right way. Simple quality recipes done right.” While Julia is cooking it up in the kitchen, her wife Vanna is more at home in the front house.
Flavor is comprised of a separate lounge bar and dance floor. The lounge can be rented out during the week for corporate parties, events, fundraisers and meet-up groups but every Friday and Saturday night is specially for the ladies.
Starting this Friday, November 6, 2015 at the 15 East Centre Street location in Baltimore, MD, Vanna and Julia are introducing The Attic at Flavor. Every Friday and Saturday night is ladies’ night. While the dining room and lounge is available for all patrons, the couple wanted to emphasis two distinct spaces. The dining room emphasizes Julia’s culinary prowess and the lounge provides a safe space for LGBTQ women and their allies. Resident Dj’s include Dj Jacq Jill and Dj Rosie but the Attic at Flavor will also feature other local talented Dj’s as well.
Flavor is open Tuesday through Sunday with happy hours 3pm – 7pm featuring $2 off wine and beer lists as well as $5 cocktails and signature small plates designed to order by the bunches and share amongst friends.
