Over the last few years, United States politics has experienced a “rainbow wave” as the number of out LGBTQ+ elected officials has grown immensely. In 2021, that number reached nearly 1,000 for the first time and is expected to surpass that milestone in 2022. Meet a few of the trailblazers in the first 1,000 who are leading the way.
Results have been mixed across party lines but one theme is that various LGBTQ candidates nationwide achieved milestone victories. On the ballots last night, there were 131 LGBTQ candidates running for office who were endorsed by political action committee the LGBTQ Victory Fund and LPAC.
As 2021 brings a second year of limited or no in-person parades due to the lingering pandemic, it’s perhaps a better time than ever to ask what companies can do beyond Pride Month parades and flag displays to meaningfully show they truly support the LGBTQ community.
