Since its launch party in August of 2017, QueerGirl has made its mark on the San Diego LGBTQ scene and continues to give back. A portion of each event is donated to the Happy Hippie Foundation, a non-profit foundation founded by Miley Cyrus that focuses on helping homeless LGBTQ individuals and other vulnerable populations.
Last year, co-founders Genevieve Greschler hosted a fall event at Rich’s Nightclub in San Diego. The successful event included well-known party host Whitney Mixter and DJ Von Kiss.
“Our last party went amazing,” says Greschler. “It was our largest event so far attendance-wise. It was a Sunday fun day party with a club vibe.”
This year’s event will be sponsored by King Coast Clothing, a local clothing company for queer skateboard and surf style enthusiasts. The company is founded by San Diego local Hallie Cardoza. QueerGirl has partnered with the company to showcase their line of merchandise. The Human Rights Campaign has also signed on to support February’s event.
Greschler welcome and encourage local queer-themed sponsors to reach out and get involved in future events to help gain visibility and support for the community.
In addition to King Coast Clothing, the event will also include DJs Heabnasty and Skyler Madison, go-go dancers, drink specials, and games. “We hired two of San Diego’s best go-go dancers, Jennifer Land and Brittni Hammett,” says Greschler. “Jen and Brittni are always crowd favorites and keep everyone dancing the whole night long.”
“Each event has gotten bigger and better with a different selection of featured queer-female talent, DJs, sponsors and hosts,” says Greschler. “We are also excited to announce that we are expanding our events to Austin, TX and Phoenix, AZ.”
QueerGirl’s next event will be held on February 9 at The Brew Project located at 3683 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA. Tickets can be found on eventbrite.com.
