Local organization Reel Independent Film Extravaganza (RIFE) is hosting a special educational seminar on October 9. RIFE, whose mission is to celebrate and promote independent film and culture, is shining a light on the “Impact of Minority Women in Film”. The panel is in partnership with Women in Film and Video (WIFV).
Paul Marengo, the Fundraising Chair for RIFE, is just one of the many people who put the event together, and specifically the panelists. “Minority women filmmakers are underrepresented in the film community and it is just as important that their stories be told, as well as their contribution to the film community. Using their films are more compelling and hard hitting,” says Marengo.
Panelists include filmmakers Cheryl Brown, Audrea Topps Harjo, and Anne Welles, as well as the Executive Director of WIFV Melissa Houghton. According to organizers, participants can expect “a very unique perspective on films, filmmaking, and the film community”. The education seminar will also include lunch.
RIFE is a film festival by and for local filmmakers. Impact of Minority Women in Film takes place Friday, October 9 at DC Public Library – Mt. Pleasant, 3160 16th St. NW, Washington, DC at 1 p.m. For more information or to RSVP to this free event, visit http://www.reelindependentfilm.com/.
