DC Bi Women
DCBiWomen is a social and support group for bisexual and bi-curious women in the DC metro area including northern VA and MD. Our goal is to create an accepting, encouraging environment for bisexual women regardless of the gender of their partner or what they are looking for, meet other cool bi women, and affirm the existence of the bi-identity. DC Center Aging
Center Aging is a program of the DC Center made up of a broad spectrum of volunteers. Our mission is to provide support and advocacy for the aging LGBT populations of the DC metropolitan area and those who provide services to them. The mission is accomplished through identification of needs and concerns, and provision or facilitation of education and training. Gay/Bi Men Working Through Experiences of Assault: This group will run the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, with the first group session scheduled on August 9th from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. This group will have a focus on working through the trauma of surviving a physical or sexual assault. Psycho-education about the deep impact that an assault can have on an individual’s life and coping mechanisms will be discussed, and new strategies for coping with physical and emotional reactions to participants’ assaults will be introduced. Feeling safe in the world and making sense of each individual trauma will also be a primary focus. Group members will evaluate the reality of emotions, behaviors and actions through various therapeutic activities aimed at increasing resilience and strength. GAYS AND LESBIANS OPPOSING VIOLENCE (GLOV) HOTLINE
A 24-hour, 7-days-a-week, LGBTQ Violence Response Hotline in collaboration with HIPS (Helping Individual People Survive) for LGBTQ individuals who are victims of violent crime, such as intimate partner violence, domestic abuse, bias or hate motivated violence, immigrant violence, police misconduct, sexual assault or hook-up/pick-up violence. LAYC Foster Care Program Information Session
Monthly Meeting (2nd Wednesday each month, 6:00pm-7:30pm)
Whether you’re interested in becoming a foster parent, know someone who is or are just plain curious about foster care, this information session is right for you! Sessions are FREE, open to the public, delivered in both English and Spanish and conveniently located less than two blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro station (the exact location will be given to those who pre-register). While no commitment to fostering is required, we do ask that folks pre-register so that we can properly prepare for the event (i.e. arrange for light refreshments and child care).
