On Thursday, July 24, SMYAL invites women in the Washington, D.C. community to gather in Columbia Heights for an intimate evening focused on how women can become leaders for LGBTQ youth. In response to a noticeable trend that significantly more men attend donor events and maintain involvement in SMYAL’s critical mission to empower D.C. youth, this all-women’s event is set to recruit and encourage female volunteers and members to become active in the organization.
In conjunction with the Young Donor’s Committee, SMYAL will widen the scope of women involvement.
“It’s important that our youth have a wide variety of role models to look up to and support them, including strong women leaders. Just as SMYAL has the Women’s Leadership Institute to provide a space for our youth who identify as female, we would like to host an event that specifically caters to female donors and provides them with the opportunity to get more involved in the organization,” says Hanna Cody, coordinator of the event.
SMYAL hopes to see the donor pool reflect the same level of diversity that is observed in the D.C. and LGBTQ community that they serve.
Women interested in attending the event can RSVP at hanna.cody@smyal.org. Simply include your full name and full guest name to confirm your attendance. The address to the event will be included in your RSVP confirmation. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
