Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders (SMYAL) will be hosting its third annual SMYAL for Summer event on Thursday, June 25 at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams storefront. This event offers ticket holders the opportunity to learn about the great work of this LGBTQ youth centered non-profit group and support the next generation of LGBTQ leaders who are growing up right in our area.

“The SMYAL for Summer event is a fantastic introduction to the SMYAL organization for new allies and supporters as well as a perfect opportunity to meet other young LGBTQ professionals who are involved in the communities they live in” says Ebony Bates, a member of the Young Donor Committee. She views the SMYAL for Summer event as one of the most important events because of the support it garners for the Annual SMYAL Fall Brunch. “The Annual SMYAL Brunch is a dynamic and extremely moving event that should not be missed! There will be more info about the Brunch and how to get involved at the event,” she explains.

Hosted by the Young Donors Committee and the SMYAL Allies, the event will include stories and updates about the work and progress of the organization.  SMYAL staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that the organization’s reach goes beyond the little blue row house on Capitol Hill and extends into the schools, homes, and personal lives of youth in the D.C. Metro area. Through daily onsite programming, partnerships within the community forged through decades of collaboration, and special in school initiatives like the Gay-Straight-Alliances, SMYAL has worked for over 30 years to make the lives of LGBTQ youth better.

Complimentary food and drinks will be served as the event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. For more information on how to be involved, as well as how to purchase tickets, click here.
