Google’s Therese Lee Receives Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Award

National LGBT Bar Association presents award at San Francisco reception

The National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Bar Association will present the Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Award to Therese Lee, global ethics and compliance counsel at Google on Thursday, June 5 at a reception in San Francisco. The LGBT Bar is proud to honor attorneys and corporations that advocate for LGBT equality within the legal sphere through the Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Awards program.

Ms. Lee is responsible for legal and regulatory compliance matters at Google, particularly the company’s worldwide compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) and international anti-bribery laws. She founded the Women’s Gaygler Employee Resource Group in December of 2012, an organization of female LGBT Google employees. Ms. Lee hosts monthly happy hours for members in the San Francisco area that have grown from small gatherings to large lesbian tech networking events with similar receptions in New York and DC. In addition to her work at Google, Ms. Lee serves on the Board of Directors at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, an organization dedicated to promoting equality for the LGBT community.

“Therese’s leadership within Google speaks to how influential attorneys in corporate legal departments can be,” said D’Arcy Kemnitz, executive director of the LGBT Bar. “Her commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident in the culture of the organization and serves as an important example for the next generation of legal professionals.”

Prior to Google, Ms. Lee practiced at the law firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in Washington, DC, where she specialized in FCPA matters, international litigation, and human rights cases. Ms. Lee has also worked in the Appeals Section of the Office of the Prosecutor at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, researched Singapore and Malaysia’s anti-terrorism laws as a Fulbright Scholar, analyzed East Asian security issues at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, and served as foreign policy adviser to U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY, 1977-2001).

The Out & Proud Corporate Counsel Award will be presented on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at a reception at the Slide Lounge in San Francisco.
