Women You Should Meet (W.Y.S.M.): Kendra Kuliga

Kendra Kuliga

Name: Kendra Kuliga (aka drag king Ken Vegas)
City, State: Washington, D.C.
Age: 47
Profession: Graphic Designer
Website: cieloproductions.com

In a few words, how would you describe yourself?
Designer, business owner, show producer, beer label designer, web designer, artist, problem solver, drag king, activist, and maker of dreams.

Your favorite hangout spots.
Currently, due to the quarantine, in my PJs working in my office with my cats. [insert lesbian joke here].

Favorite guilty pleasure.
Running.

Favorite quote.
“Be the change that you want to see in the world.”

Who is your biggest influence? And why?
My mom. She showed me that we can make our dreams come true by reading good books and surrounding ourselves with good people.

Favorite event.
Raven’s Night, which is the belly dance show that I co-produce with Belladonna (my wife and co-conspirator to all cool and fun things).

Do you have any regrets in life?

I used to be a big runner and body builder in my early 20s and I worked out everyday. My biggest regret was stopping because I fell into a deep depression after my brother
died. I thankfully picked up running again last year and run everyday. Who says you can’t pick up where you left off…even if it takes 20 years to do so?

Favorite lesbian/queer celebrity.
K.D. Lang, her voice is so incredible.

Any fun facts or anything else you want our readers to know?
I produced the DC Kings for 15 years with over 400+ drag kings gracing our stage. I also produced the Great Big International Drag King show that was held at the Black Cat and the 9:30 Club. I am currently working with Mo B. Dick on the Dragkinghistory.com project to document drag king history so we can appreciate and honor all of the people that got us to modern day drag. I got into making professional drag king music videos during quarantine to make the best of this situation.

Also, I love running with my action figure Snake Eyes and have felt that my mid-life crisis has manifested into collecting action figures of my youth. I am also a big collector of the Star Wars Boba Fett action figures.
