Alexandra B. Ernst’s current lifestyle seems straight out of a superhero movie. By day, she is a Facility Operations Manager handling day-to-day projects at immixGroup, Inc., which helps technology companies do business with the government. By night, she is actively engaged with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). And, to say she is engaged is an understatement.
Ernst has been volunteering with HRC since 2007. In that time, she has been a Co-chair of the HRC National Dinner, she has also joined their Board of Governors and the Executive Board of Governors; and she currently serves as the Co-chair of the Greater DC HRC Steering Committee.
“It all started because I had come out [in 2006] and wanted to meet people in my LGBTQ community who I could relate to. I wanted to be able to feel as though I could help create change in my community,” says Ernst.
She describes herself as a worker bee with a “get it done” mentality. When she is not advocating for LGBTQ causes, she enjoys time with friends and family and attending sporting events, concerts, and musicals.
“When I look back on my life, to know that I was a part of creating change—even if just a small part—I feel pretty proud of that,” says Ernst. “There are so many inspiring LBTQ women that I have the pleasure to work with and to call my friends. I can’t wait to see the change we are all going to be able to create here in the DMV area.”
