A new sapphic dating show, ToGetHer, launched April 25 on Korean streaming platform Wavve. It is the first Korean show of its kind.
Seven women live in a shared house (with roommates they choose in the first episode) on Jeju Island off the southern coast of South Korea. The premise is that the women write each other love notes which are anonymously delivered to their mailboxes so they can get to know one another and ask each other on dates by passing letters. There is no competition in the sense of choosing one person each week or voting for eliminations: it’s just a sweet dating show. That’s not to say there won’t be any drama or jealousy as feelings develop, of course.
Six of the women are femme-presenting and one is masc-presenting, giving a perfect visual of the much-discussed masc shortage. The short-haired Mi-rang didn’t receive any note in the first round but started getting attention in the second episode.
While ToGetHer is the first Korean dating show about queer women, it is not the first Korean LGBTQIA+ dating show. A similar male-focused reality show, His Man, aired in 2022 and Wavve released Merry Queer, a show about LGBTQIA+ couples, the same year.
Episodes will drop every Friday through June 27. The season will have ten episodes.
While Wavve isn’t available in the US, long clips of the show with English subtitles are available on the ToGetHer YouTube account. Here’s hoping for direct US streaming soon!
